چکیده

Optical Burst Switching proposes a future-proof alternative to the current electronic switching in the backbone. The involved optical buffers are implemented with a set of Fiber Delay Lines, and suffer serious performance loss, when compared to RAM. Various existing models trace this loss, but either lack generality, accuracy, or effectiveness. The optical buffer model we constructed is valid for general line lengths and burst sizes. An effective approach allowed to strongly reduce the solution’s complexity, while remaining exact. This document presents the key formulas and performance graphs. The obtained model serves as a basic optimization tool, yielding results fast. keywords: OBS, optical buffer, FDL, fiber delay lines, discrete-time optimization.

Ray-tracing and Interferometry in Schwarzschild Geometry

Here, we investigate the possible optical anisotropy of vacuum due to gravitational field. In doing this, we provide sufficient evidence from direct coordinate integration of the null-geodesic equations obtained from the Lagrangian method, as well as ray-tracing equations obtained from the Plebanski’s equivalent medium theory. All calculations are done for the Schwarzschild geometry, which resu...

Improving the Triple Coupled Ring-Resonator Performance as an Optical Filter

In this paper, a three ring-resonator serially coupled is considered as an optical filter. We are going to improve the performance of the designed optical filter by increasing the quality factor and finesse of filtered wavelengths. The first and last rings are coupled to the bus waveguides that carry the input and output fields. The effect of coupling parameters and ring radii on the filtering ...

Analytical computation of the off-axis effective area of grazing incidence X-ray mirrors

Aims. Focusing mirrors for X-ray telescopes in grazing incidence, introduced in the 70s, are characterized in terms of their performance by their imaging quality and effective area, which in turn determines their sensitivity. Even though the on-axis effective area is assumed in general to characterize the collecting power of an X-ray optic, the telescope capability of imaging extended X-ray sou...

Quantum Squeezed Light Propagation in an Optical Parity-Time (PT)-Symmetric Structure

We investigate the medium effect of a parity-time (PT)-symmetric bilayer on the quantum optical properties of an incident squeezed light at zero temperature (T=0 K). To do so, we use the canonical quantization approach and describe the amplification and dissipation properties of the constituent layers of the bilayer structure by Lorentz model to analyze the quadrature squeezing of the outgoing ...

Interactive Volume Rendering with Ray Tracing

Recent research on high-performance ray tracing has achieved real-time performance even for highly complex surface models already on a single PC. In this report we provide an overview of techniques for extending real-time ray tracing also to interactive volume rendering. We review fast rendering techniques for different volume representations and rendering modes in a variety of computing enviro...
